What do the Psalms & zones of regulation have in common?
Zones of Regulation
This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to work with 70 amazing foster and adopted children at a camp designed just for them!
Each morning, we explored the Zones of Regulation using a charming chart from LightandSaltDesignco, which you can find on their Etsy store here.
If you’re new to the Zones of Regulation, don’t worry! The Zones are a helpful framework designed to help individuals, especially children, identify and use healthy coping strategies to manage their emotions. The Zones of Regulation use colors (green, red, blue, and yellow) to identify our emotion(s) and what we need to help us process what we are experiencing.
The goal isn’t necessarily to get back to “green," but to use healthy coping skills to process any emotion we are experiencing.
At camp, my time with the kids focused on creating healthy connections to God through understanding the Psalms and how they relate to each zone. This healthy connection is rooted in the belief that each child, each person, is seen, safe, and secure with God. Our trust in God is strengthened when we know that God loves us, and is present with us, no matter what zone we find ourselves in.
Perhaps you, just like these kids, need to hear this truth. Understanding that we are always loved and supported by God can strengthen our attachment to Him and offer comfort and encouragement.
As promised, you can find my teaching script for the Green Zone here! Enjoy!
